As part of our mission to ‘build a global compassionate community’, we have 4 experiences for schools. They are:
- attending a Social Justice Conference
- hosting an incursion at your school
- getting involved in the Change Makers Challenge of 2018
- participation in a ‘Teachers’ Trip‘ to the Philippines
Each year we sponsor two young adults from the Philippines to travel to Australia. These young adults have faced the challenges of poverty and are now inspiring leaders advocating for change in their communities. They generously share their stories to help raise awareness of the plight of street children worldwide. Your students will connect with their stories and understand the personal impact of poverty on children around the world.
Now in its 15th year, KidsView is a series of social justice conferences and incursions for school students. The conference allows up to 15 students from each school to attend. These are perfect for social justice groups, aspiring leaders or simply students who want / need to learn about living in a global community. Incursions cater for entire classes / year levels and are a terrific way to supplement an inquiry and engage the whole school.
As our presenters travel from the Philippines, KidsView only runs for 6 weeks. In 2019, KidsView will be held from April 29th until May 30th.

The conferences, which have direct links to AusVELS, are a fantastic opportunity to expose your students to social justice issues. In the AusVels domain, Civics and Citizenships, asks that students ‘consider human rights and social justice issues at local, national and global levels.‘
Representatives from the Philippines
The representatives from the Philippines this year are:
Catherine is an Australian who has been volunteering / working in the Philippines for the past 14 years. She works closely with vulnerable children ensuring their basic human rights (safety, housing, education, food, etc) are met. As Deputy Director of Bahay Tuluyan, Catherine advocates strongly for a socially just world. Her passion is contagious as she inspires everyone to do what they can, where they are. Catherine will be in Australia to facilitate the conferences.
The two Filipino representatives for 2019 are still being confirmed. We will let you know ASAP.
Testimonials from past conferences:
‘This is an invaluable opportunity for the students to listen, learn and ask questions with people who have lived in poverty. The presenters were engaging and my students are now buzzing with ideas to take back to class and their families.” (Year 5/6 Teacher)
“KidsView awakened our students’ awareness of the challenges facing people living in poverty, particularly in the Philippines. They went away with a new understanding of global issues and it empowered them to become keenly involved in social justice groups back at the college.” (Secondary School Teacher)
“I learned that we can help. It inspired me to do everything I can to make the world a better place. I learned that I am so very rich and that in everything I do, I can really make a difference. We can do so much more than we think we can. This conference inspired me to try and do something about poverty.” (KidsView Student Participant)
Responding to KidsView
KidsView is an educational activity run by BTPA. We respect that many schools already have established charities who they support. We hope that by increasing student’s awareness and passion for social justice, they will be further inspired to continue supporting people in need.
