Our History

Founded in 1987, Bahay Tuluyan is a recognised non-government organisation that works with vulnerable children in the Philippines. Australian, Catherine Scerri, has been living in the Philippines and working with Bahay Tuluyan since 2003. She saw the enormous need in the community and put out a call to her family and friends in Australia for support.

BTPA was established to provide an Australian partner for the work of Bahay Tuluyan.

BTPA is now a tax registered incorporation based in Victoria, Australia. Every year we send thousands of dollars to help Bahay Tuluyan with their work in the Philippines. In addition, BTPA runs KidsView Conferences and Incursions in Australia, inspiring students to do what they can for a socially just world.

We are proud to be run entirely by volunteers, with almost no administrative costs and high levels of reporting and accountability. The impact of our fundraising efforts has changed hundreds of lives for the better.

Our Mission

BTPA is a children’s rights organisation providing opportunities for
Australians to make lasting change towards a socially just world and
building the capacity of our partner organisation in the Philippines,
Bahay Tuluyan, to work with children, youth, families and communities living in poverty. We do this through education, advocacy, volunteering and sustainable development programs.

Our Committee

BTPA has a dedicated team of volunteers on the committee who work towards achieving our mission.

The current committee is:

  • Jackie Kerr, President
  • Cathy Nicou, Vice President
  • Yvette Escalante, Secretary
  • Mona Zabakly, Treasurer and Child Safety Officer

Our Goals

Have 15,000 people participate in advocacy events run by or involving BTPA and to inspire or support 1,000 people to take action to create a socially just world.

Build the capacity of Bahay Tuluyan to empower and support 20% more children through its programs and increase by 20% our financial, material and human resource support of BT, with an emphasis on self-reliance projects.

Our Values

Develop processes and structures to strengthen and diversify Bahay Tuluyan Philippines Australia and our partnership with Bahay Tuluyan into the future.
